welcome back!
Here's your second video - Fundamentals of Playing in Time
In this video we tackle the second of the three major reasons great drummers are better - time, or timing.
We’ll discuss a concept I like to call “the parking space” (which actually comes from my friend Ian), and talk about why Steve Jordan is one of the best in the world at placing his beat right in the center of it - or a little early or a little late, depending on what he wants to do.
Then we’ll go over the two major types of time, and how to develop them. Microtime, or the ability to space your subdivisions consistently, and create upbeat/downbeat tension (like Brian Blade), and Macrotime, the ability to end a song at the same tempo you started it.
No transcriptions here because the exercises are all metronome exercises.
Enjoy!
